Designing & Delivering Resilient Utility Networks for Urban Growth

SMS provides comprehensive engineering and EPC solutions for municipal water systems — from large-diameter pipelines and trunk sewers to pumping stations and civil works for water treatment facilities. Our work ensures efficient, reliable, and sustainable infrastructure that supports growing cities and industrial centres.

01.
Pipeline Engineering Built to Hold Pressure

Water transmission infrastructure is buried, pressurised, and expected to perform for decades without failure. SMS engineers pipeline systems using site-specific hydraulic analysis, appropriate material selection (MS, DI, GRP, HDPE), and controlled installation practice — all verified through formal hydraulic pressure testing before any main is commissioned. What goes into the ground is built to stay there and hold.

02.
Urban Delivery Without Disruption

Installing trunk mains and sewer lines through active urban areas means managing traffic, utilities, community access, and live network interfaces simultaneously. SMS has delivered complex underground utility projects in Karachi’s most densely serviced corridors — protecting existing services, maintaining pedestrian and vehicle access, coordinating with KWSB and municipal authorities, and completing work to programme.

03.
Civil, Hydraulic & Utility Infrastructure Specialists

Our water and municipal team brings together hydraulic engineers, pipeline designers, geotechnical specialists, and utility corridor managers with specific experience in large-diameter pipeline installation, pumping station civil works, water and sewage treatment plant civil packages, and underground utility management in congested urban environments.

04.
Full Lifecycle Water Utility Services

SMS manages every phase: feasibility analysis, hydraulic design, pipe procurement and material testing, open-cut and trenchless installation, pumping station and reservoir construction, valve chamber and SCADA room civil works, pressure testing, network integration, and plant commissioning. Infrastructure that is not just installed, but designed, built, tested, and confirmed ready to operate.

Why Choose SMS for Water & Municipal Projects?

Frequently asked questions

SMS has installation experience across the main materials used for water transmission in Pakistan — mild steel (MS), ductile iron (DI), glass-reinforced plastic (GRP), and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) — across a wide range of diameters from municipal distribution mains to large-bore trunk transmission mains. Material selection is determined by hydraulic pressure class, soil conditions, corrosion environment, and project-specific requirements, and we provide technical recommendations as part of the design process.

Yes. Working in constrained urban environments — where road space is limited, existing utilities are unmarked or poorly documented, and community disruption must be minimised — is a specific capability of our water and utility team. We carry out detailed utility surveys before excavation, develop detailed working method statements for each section, and coordinate closely with KWSB, KE, SSGC, and other utility owners throughout installation.

We cover the full scope of water utility civil infrastructure. In addition to pipeline installation, SMS constructs pumping stations from civil foundations and superstructure to mechanical and electrical installation, wet wells, dry wells, and valve rooms. For water treatment plants (WTP) and sewage treatment plants (STP), we deliver the complete civil package — including process structures, chemical dosing building foundations, sludge handling infrastructure, and SCADA and MCC room construction.

Commissioning begins before the last section of pipe is installed. SMS follows a structured pre-commissioning sequence: hydraulic pressure testing of each pipeline section as it is completed, flushing and disinfection of potable water mains, pump performance testing against design duty points, and functional testing of control systems and instrumentation. The system is handed over to the client with a complete commissioning record, as-built drawings, and an O&M documentation package.
